The change of season may bring about a need to turn your attention to your hair. Colder temperatures in fall and winter result in less humidity in the air. This can lead to dryness that can affect your hair and scalp. Also, wearing hats and scarves may cause breakage of hair strands if waring them frequently and pulling them off without mindfulness.
No matter what the season, here are my top FAB Five tips for caring for hair (and growing it, too!):
1) Protect your hair from physical damage: this includes avoiding or reducing high heat, pulling, and chemical processing;
2) Keep the skin of the scalp moisturized: to help prevent dryness, brittleness, breakage and dandruff;
3) Trim hair regularly: to reduce breakage and split ends;
4) Give your hair time to rest and recover from harsh styling: wear protective styles or minimize styling for up to two weeks;
5) Supplement your diet with hair health vitamins and antioxidants: consider vitamins A, B., C, D, and E and biotin, zinc, protein, and iron.
6) Bonus: Reduce the stress in your life: stress can push hair follicles out of an active growth phase and into a “resting” phase so that they don't produce new hair strands. Over time, the hair can fall out more frequently and more easily.
